Exhibition: Les Invasions Barbares

October 2009
Reception will take place on October 17th, 3PM to 6PM
“Les Invasions Barbares” is an exhibition of Galerie Maison Kasini’s New England artists: Catherine Hall makes haunting, doll-like sculptures out of plastic and wax. Ciaran Brennan’s photographs are an interpretation of art history through the lens of suburbia. Lois Eby combines Asian ink painting and African American improvised music in abstract work best described as visual jazz. Karen M. Geiger makes collage by altering books in a dialogue about gender and the body. Colin-Patrick Charles offers dazzling ink-on-paper drawings inspired by 17th & 18th century engravings of maps and contemporary comic book drafting. Carol MacDonald makes monoprints that stitch together a number of thematic elements into work that aims to reflect a spiritual dialogue between the artist and the viewer. Charles Orme photographs himself as part of an installation that juxtaposes modernity with classical elements.
“Les Invasions Barbares” is part of a series of exhibitions designed to introduce the public to Galerie Maison Kasini. It was preceded by Commencement and the Grand Opening of the gallery in September and will be followed in November with an exhibition of the gallery’s Quebec artists entitled, “Tu n’es pas ici.”
“Les Invasions Barbares” is on view during the month of October. A reception will take place on October 17th from 3PM to 6PM.
